Nostalgische Rückwendung und prospektive Mahnung. Otfried Preußlers Hörbe und Rübezahl zwischen Wiedererzählung und Neuerfindung
摘要
This article deals with the different modes of re-telling and re-modelling of folktale creatures in Otfried Preußler’s writing. First, it examines the transformation of the „Hutzelmännchen“ Hörbe through his adventurous journey and friendship with a representative of another species. The journey and friendship cause numerous problems in terms of cultural differences – a far cry from human beings who have been the foil for any kind of „little men“ and dwarfish creatures throughout literary history. The article then discusses the lord of the giant mountains, Rübezahl, Preußler’s incarnation in his Rübezahlbuch (The Book of Rübezahl), which partly turns against the rich literary tradition surrounding Rübezahl, and to which Preußler adds an ecological twist.
