AI ostensibly promises to make life easier. In reality, however, it is a business intended to generate profits. In return, people provide data about their behavior. Liberal orders secure self-determination, but still want to know as much as possible about the inhabitants in order to make the future predictable. Therefore, economics increasingly focuses on behavioral research. With the overemphasis on detached individualism and the concept of an unbound self, contemporary liberalism has forgotten its own moral-theoretical foundation and has relegated morality to a private matter. AI, as a child of liberalism, is ambivalent. It promises more freedom, but its path involves data collection, control, and regulation.
