Hadron-Hadron Interactions

The first section examines how perturbative cross sections in hadronhadron collisions can be calculated. Subsequently, soft processes of the strong interaction are discussed, which dominate the total cross section and lead to additional low-energy reactions alongside high-energy partonic processes. Hard QCD processes produce hadronic jets with high transverse momentum, which are detected in experiments using suitable jet algorithms. The high event rate and large center-of-mass energy at the Tevatron and LHC provide excellent conditions for testing the electroweak interaction with W andZ bosons and for precise measurements of processes involving top quarks. The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC marked the longsought cornerstone of the Standard Model. The theoretical foundations and experimental methods of all these measurements are presented in detail. Finally, the question of up to which energies the Standard Model might be valid is examined.
