This chapter provides the analysis of the first step of the study: quantitatively investigating the influence of device affordances within the large-scale, anonymous corpus. Five categories of features are investigated: length (Sect. 5.2), acronyms and abbreviations (Sect. 5.3), emoji and emoticons (Sect. 5.4), punctuation (Sect. 5.5), and non-standard orthography (Sect. 5.6). Sect. 5.7 summarises and discusses the results.
