Technology and Communication: Interdisciplinary Discourses
摘要
This chapter provides the theoretical background for the empirical analysis. It draws both from non-linguistic fields which investigate the impact of technology on human behaviour (Sects. 2.2 and 2.3), as well as on past linguistic research on DMC. The latter involves both the relatively scarce past research regarding the influence of communication device on linguistic variation in DMC (Sects. 2.4 and 2.5.1), and other relevant research regarding the influence of social factors and the motivation for microlinguistic feature use (Sects. 2.5.2 and 2.6). A summary and discussion of interdisciplinary ideas about the influence of communication device on language concludes the chapter (Sect. 2.7).
