The Postural-Structural-Biomechanical (PSB) Model
摘要
Physiotherapists and doctors traditionally use the postural-structural-biomechanical (PSB) model and often see in functional deficits, such as reduced mobility or postural and movement asymmetries, the cause and root of their patients’ pain. The impression of causality arises when two simultaneously existing parameters, such as pain and, for example, excessive lumbar lordosis, are identified through examination. Contrary to popular belief, however, these supposed deficits are neither the cause nor a risk factor for the onset of pain. They are often either a driver or the result of a painful condition or a variable expression of the normal, which occurs as frequently in asymptomatic people as in symptomatic patients. The pathologization of normal things could lead to false conclusions and reduced explanatory and therapeutic effectiveness.
