In this chapter, we would like to investigate the properties of matter inside stars. In doing so, we will derive a set of equations that can be used to describe many different types of stars. We will derive the equation for hydrostatic equilibrium, and we will discuss relationships between density pressure, temperature and other variables inside a star. Finally, we shall consider various equations of state for stellar matter.
