In this chapter, we look at the processes that lead to the formation of stars. We derive the virial theorem, which makes a statement about the relationship between the mean kinetic and the mean potential energy of an ensemble of particles. Then we investigate the Jeans criterion, which describes the conditions for the collapse of a cloud of gas into a star.

摘要

In this chapter, we look at the processes that lead to the formation of stars. We derive the virial theorem, which makes a statement about the relationship between the mean kinetic and the mean potential energy of an ensemble of particles. Then we investigate the Jeans criterion, which describes the conditions for the collapse of a cloud of gas into a star.
