General relativity predicts that accelerated masses emit gravitational waves which propagate at the speed of light. For studying this phenomenon we consider small perturbations of spacetime. Then we can linearize the field equations, and neglect back-reactions of the energy of the waves on spacetime. The treatment of the linearized field equations follows in way analogous to the treatment of electromagnetic waves in electrodynamics.

摘要

General relativity predicts that accelerated masses emit gravitational waves which propagate at the speed of light. For studying this phenomenon we consider small perturbations of spacetime. Then we can linearize the field equations, and neglect back-reactions of the energy of the waves on spacetime. The treatment of the linearized field equations follows in way analogous to the treatment of electromagnetic waves in electrodynamics.
