Navigating the History of ‘Translation-Adaptation’: The Case of La Sorella by Giambattista Della Porta and Adelphe by Samuel Brooke
摘要
This chapter conducts a comparative analysis of Giambattista Della Porta’s La Sorella (circa 1603) and its subsequent Latin adaptation by Samuel Brooke, Adelphe (circa 1611/1612). The analysis delves into the thematic, cultural, and stylistic nuances of La Sorella alongside those of Adelphe to elucidate Brooke’s techniques. By scrutinising the parallels and deviations between the two texts, this study seeks to discern the degree to which Brooke preserved the integrity of Della Porta’s original work or introduced notable alterations to better accommodate differing cultural and contextual demands.
