Gärtnern und Schreiben gegen die atomare Bedrohung. Zum Briefwechsel zwischen Sarah Kirsch und Christa Wolf in den 1980er Jahren
摘要
The early 1980s were characterized by atomic threats. Poems such as „Ende des Jahres“ (1982) by Sarah Kirsch and Voraussetzungen einer Erzählung: Kassandra (1983) by Christa Wolf deal with the possibilities of finding a mental way of dealing with it. The Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred just a few years later. In this chapter, I demonstrate how the correspondence between the two authors from this time manifests various strategies for strengthening each other mentally. For both of them, friendship meant visiting the other, writing letters and exchanging their own gardening experiences as well as continuing to write together or in reference to each other. Gardening in particular helps both of them to continue writing despite the threats. These results strengthen the hypothesis of current debates on ‘nature and wellbeing’ that nature connectedness helps people to develop resilience.
