Proof Theory
摘要
This chapter introduces proof theory, which most logicians consider the primary building block of mathematical logic. It pursues the idea of interpreting proofs as mathematical objects, thereby making them ac-cessible for rigorous analysis. The development of proof theory was in full swing in the first half of the twentieth century, yielding profound insights into the nature of mathematical reasoning. However, it also re-vealed fundamental limitations inherent in mathematics, which are the subject of this chapter.
