This chapter aims to investigate the influence of social media usage on group formation and the role of group experiences and group self-experience. Many of us spend hours in the virtual group contexts of social media today. The complex interplay of virtual and real group experiences is still very little researched. Critical perspectives often dominate, but they must remain incomplete and one-sided as long as they make theory-guided assumptions the prerequisite for their considerations.
