The emergency call to the rescue coordination center on this early summer morning was: “Traffic accident involving a motorcyclist and a car; one injured motorcyclist, responsive.” Based on the emergency call, the rescue coordination center alerted the nearest ambulance and a physician-staffed emergency medical service unit; additionally, a helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) was also alerted. The ambulance was the first to arrive at the scene; the following situation was observed: The driver of the car wanted to turn left into a field path and overlooked a motorcyclist who was overtaking several cars. The motorcyclist hit the car on the front left fender and flew over the hood onto the road. This mechanism is the “classic” in accidents involving motorcycles outside urban areas and often results in severe injuries due to the high speed of both vehicles involved in the accident.
