On the late, warm evening of a summer Sunday, ambulances and physician-staffed emergency medical service (EMS) units were alerted shortly after midnight with the report of an “unconscious person” in the residential area of a small town. In a garage driveway next to the house, four people were gathered around a garden table. Some were attending to the patient lying on the ground and led the simultaneously arriving EMS team to him.
