The stories in Power to the Princess (Murrow/Bereciartu 2019) present themselves as reworkings of traditional (classic) fairy tales that make the female characters appear as independent figures. Above all, the protagonists’ (professional) work is presented as a means of emancipation and as an expression of their autonomy. Even a closer look at the content shows that a normative concept of women orientated towards non-literary reality is taken up, which complies with current wishful thinking. The main concern of the article, however, is the argument that it is not the ‘what’ of the narrative, but above all its how that runs counter to the seemingly progressive message of the story presented and its world. Through the structuralist-semiotically oriented analysis of the discourse, it can be emphasised that the text also constructs a womanhood with the gender order that repeats valid stereotypes and corresponding cultural knowledge, whereby the superficial narrative of the (self-)liberated woman (through successful work) is undermined and destroyed.

摘要
