Effective and inventive problem solving is an important task. In the former German Democratic Republic, a training scheme was created by engineers and psychologist to deal with problems in a creative way to find new and patentable solutions. The training material and additional literature is still available at university and public libraries. The research question, this paper tries to answer, is, does the training still provide a systematic approach for today’s problem situations and does it offer up to date tools to come up with suitable solutions. Furthermore, a short comparison to TRIZ is given.
