The paper tries to answer the question if AI tools like chatGPT could help to improve the more or less subjective search for leading areas or industries within Function Oriented Search. The obtained results imply that AI tools could support the search in an effective and objective way, especially if prompt templates with adjusted user inputs for the specific search are applied. Furthermore, the search for the leading area should be extended to nature. A Nature Oriented Innovation Strategy was introduced by Hill and this work could be extended to prompts for a Function Oriented Search in Nature (FOSN). Nevertheless, the human factor still remains because the creative work with the problem, i.e., deriving the core problem, prompt creating and decision making seems to be difficult to hand over to an AI completely. Especially, the definition of the generalised function, its parameters and the goal to be achieved are core issues carried out by individuals with differing skill.
