Bright little things
摘要
Oh, the stories I could tell! For days now, I have been marvelling at a troop of winged garden dwellers. It’s been several years that we’ve had an outdoor rack against one of the walls of our barn, piled with logs of different kinds of wood, such as spruce, oak, ash and elder. Last Sunday, after I had been drilling holes into a dead oak trunk in another part of the garden to provide a nesting site for small bees and wasps, I said to myself: “Why not drill some holes into the logs in the rack as well?” Due to the way the wood was stacked, I had to drill into the end grain, which, strictly speaking, isn’t how you are meant to do it, but there you go! Not lazing about, I set to work in earnest, drilling holes of 4, 5, 6 and 7 mm in diameter.
