In our latitudes, the larch is famous for its hardy and water-resistant timber and also for being the only conifer, unlike pines and spruces, to shed its needles after the first frost. Accordingly, in winter, larch forests are bare, only to delight us all the more in spring with the fresh, vibrant green of their first new shoots.
