This chapter aims to demonstrate the potential of using digital tools to investigate specific questions concerning translation by marking up a large corpus of sixteenth-century paratexts to ancient drama. After presenting the aims of the IThAC project, the chapter discusses the project’s methodology, focusing on digital aspects, and analyses the results gathered regarding reflections on translation in the corpus. It appears that authors of paratexts reflect on which dramatists and which plays should be translated and why: to make Greek drama known to readers who do not know the Greek language, to help students of Greek improve their skill but also to have fun. They also reflect on how they should be translated—and this goes beyond the traditional debate on ad versum versus ad sensum. Issues specific to translating Greek drama such as metre and choruses are also addressed. Finally, the authors of paratexts contribute to the construction of the figure of the translator, between poet and editor.
