The project ‘Versio latina’ etc. is being funded by the DFG as part of the SPP 2130 ‘Cultures of Translation in the Early Modern Period’ for three years. The project examines translations of vernacular literature into Latin, which were successful in print in the early modern period (ca. 1480–1780). In contrast to previous research, it focuses on Latin as the target language instead of the source language, thereby centering the Neo-Latin translation instead of the source text. Following a dual approach, detailed case studies are complemented by cataloguing translations of early modern literature into Latin into the Catalogus versionum latinarum (CVlat). This contribution introduces the project and its approach to sustainably cataloguing early modern translations into Latin, discussing its challenges, potential biases and possible solutions.
