In this chapter, we shed light on the—for the relationship between leaders and their employees–central issue of respect. We distinguish between respectful and respected leadership: Respectful leadership is about meeting employees at eye level despite hierarchical differences. Respected leadership is about leaders receiving respect from their employees for their abilities and achievements. We show what consequences leadership has in relation to both forms of respect and how it comes about or can be promoted.
