What contribution can leaders make to the maintenance and promotion of their employees’ health? Especially with the increase in mental stress at the workplace, the role of the leader is becoming more and more important. However, the health of employees is not only influenced by leadership behavior itself but also by how the leader deals with their own health. This chapter illustrates the various ways in which leaders can influence the physical and mental health of employees and, based on this, presents the practical application of the concept of Health-oriented Leadership (HoL) by Franke and Felfe (2011a). HoL enables the assessment of health-oriented self-leadership (SelfCare) and health-oriented leadership towards employees (StaffCare) from the perspective of leaders and employees (self- vs. external assessment). Concrete recommendations for action on the use of the instrument are given. The HoL intervention is a systematic leadership and team development measure and consists of (1) the coordination meeting with the management, (2) the information event for leaders, (3) the preliminary conversation with the leader, (4) the kick-off with leader and team, (5) the diagnosis and interpretation of the HoL results, (6) the coaching session with the leader, (7) the workshop with leader and team, (8) up to the follow-up with the leader. The aim of the HoL intervention is to develop action plans together with leaders and employees and thus make a long-term contribution to the protection and promotion of employee health.

摘要
