Attention
摘要
Attention is a little-understood sister of consciousness. We speak of “wakefulness” and the image of the spotlight of attention when we illustrate consciousness as a stage. Intentional consciousness makes use of attention functions. We are dealing with a variety of attention functions. Some researchers reserve the term “attention” solely for selective attention. However, since one can not only be attentive to something specific but also be more or less attentive without a specific object, it seems better to keep the term broad. Most researchers also recognize that undirected activation processes, such as the startle reaction, have a function in the regulation of attention.
