Ego disturbances refer mainly to specific psychopathological characteristics in patients with schizophrenic psychosis. For example, a patient believes that a chip has been implanted under his skin, which reads his thoughts and communicates them to his pursuers. The individuals feel, for instance, monitored or manipulated in their movements, thoughts, perceptions, and feelings. The ego-environment boundary seems to be disturbed. Ego disturbances are partly classified as bizarre delusions. However, this classification does not correspond to the psychopathological characteristics. In a patient suffering from thought broadcasting, a kind of violation of the fundamental boundary between their personal experience and the environment must be noted.
