Vitreous body changes are a common reason for consulting an ophthalmologist. With targeted examination techniques, the corresponding findings can usually be made visible biomicroscopically. Being able to demonstrate these to the patient in a comprehensible way is an opportunity that should not be missed as an ophthalmologist: The lamellar structure and also cells of the vitreous body can be particularly well represented in the optical section at medium magnification. For deeply located floaters, however, a convex fundus lens is often helpful. In the case of pronounced asteroid hyalosis, a reliable fundus assessment may no longer be possible biomicroscopically. Often, an SD-OCT examination then still provides meaningful images of the posterior fundus pole.
