This introductory chapter provides an overview of the contents and objectives of this second part of the “Handbook of Contact Mechanics”. We want to maintain the demands on this “handbook” that we formulated at the beginning of the first volume for the second part. This applies both to the overall structure of the book, and to the detailed presentation of the specific contact problems dealt with. The structure of this second part of the “Handbook of Contact Mechanics” is very closely based on the structure of the first volume. Accordingly, the use of this book is completely analogous to that of the first part.
