The term supraventricular tachycardias encompasses those rhythm disturbances that primarily originate from the atrium with involvement of the AV node. Although atrial fibrillation and flutter also originate in the atrium, they are not included in the group of supraventricular tachycardias in the narrower sense. With a prevalence of 2.25 per 1000 (excluding atrial fibrillation and flutter), the occurrence of these rhythm disturbances is a common problem in the emergency department, especially since these arrhythmias frequently recur until definitive therapy. The symptomatology includes, in addition to palpitations, also palpitations, feelings of anxiety, presyncope, chest pressure, and dyspnea. Drug therapy is often frustrating. This book chapter deals with the differentiation of narrow complex tachycardia and describes the possible interventional therapy options. The following chapters will then go into more detail on the individual entities of supraventricular rhythm disturbances and discuss them in detail.
