Imagine a world in which the full potential of AI is realised. In this world, we will be able to predict critical events such as injuries in sports—without interfering with athletes’ daily routines. AI will play a key role in making data more accessible and this in turn will improve our ability to predict, prevent and improve injuries. By analysing vast amounts of data, AI can uncover patterns and correlations that may go unnoticed using traditional methods, leading to better prediction of injuries and more tailored prevention and rehabilitation plans, as well as improved athletic performance. However, the path to integrating AI into sport is fraught with challenges. We have to deal with issues such as ensuring AI accuracy, compliance with regulations, understanding data changes and the responsible use of AI. Despite these hurdles, the gradual introduction of AI into sport is paving the way for an era of more informed decision-making. It promises a future where decisions are based on solid data, leading to training and coaching that is both safer and more effective for athletes.
