Despite the widely recognised benefits of physical activity (PA), the world has witnessed a pandemic of physical inactivity. A significant number of people spend most of their time being physically inactive, and there are no significant signs that this trend is reversing. In recent years, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has opened up new ways to promote PA and active living in innovative ways. This chapter explores three key emerging areas relevant to the promotion of PA, namely (1) fitness tracking with wearable devices, (2) chatbots, and (3) gamification of PA, and shows how the integration of AI and ML in these areas can make PA interventions more effective and sustainable.

摘要
