Echinoderms have highly unusual body shapes but are descendants of bilaterally symmetrical ancestors. They show a deuterostome development, have a biphasic life cycle with a planktonic bilateral symmetric larva and possess, as adult animals, a pentameric (“five-rayed”), radially symmetrical body, and live as adults on or in the seabed. Echinoderms are exclusively marine.

摘要

Echinoderms have highly unusual body shapes but are descendants of bilaterally symmetrical ancestors. They show a deuterostome development, have a biphasic life cycle with a planktonic bilateral symmetric larva and possess, as adult animals, a pentameric (“five-rayed”), radially symmetrical body, and live as adults on or in the seabed. Echinoderms are exclusively marine.
