When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out at the end of 2019, it once again became apparent that the elderly are particularly vulnerable during health crises, and preventive measures are paramount to ensure they age in good health and with dignity. Accordingly, this chapter will first highlight some of the relevant international-level policy frameworks put in place to respond to the pandemic. This includes frameworks that set out guidelines to respond to the ageing demographic trend as well as the framework developed by the German government to guide international cooperation. Second, the chapter uses project cases of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in China and other Asian countries to introduce international cooperation actions to highlight the potential and importance of international cooperation in tackling the challenge. The last section of the chapter will introduce the areas of focus of this cooperation as well as contributions from academia and practitioners included in this book.
