This chapter will focus on the history and development of the most relevant principle of permanent sovereignty over natural resources. Starting with the creation of this principle in the aftermath of World War II, we will follow its development over the previous seventy years, as shaped and guided by resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Nowadays, it is recognized as fundamental principle of international law and customary international law and was adopted in various jurisdictions and global declarations.
