This contribution deals with one of the most famous articles on the framing concept, written almost 30 years ago by the political scientist Robert M. Entman. Entman’s article became particularly known for his distinction of four frame elements and two definitions; this led to considerable reach. First, the central content of the essay is presented and linked to work published also by other authors at the same time or earlier. Afterwards, Entman’s article is classified into further publications of his oeuvre, in which he dealt with frames or framing or related constructs as well. Finally, the impact history of the article is discussed, which can be viewed on the one hand in conceptual-definitional terms, and on the other hand in methodological terms. In both cases, also critical questions arise. Finally, it is discussed whether Entman’s article still tells us something today – for example when social sciences explore current societal discourses such as climate change.

摘要
