Theory of News Values: The Structure of Foreign News – by Johan Galtung and Mari Holmboe Ruge (1965)
摘要
How do news media select what they report on? This question has been pursued by news value researchers for many years. News value research is one of the most traditional research directions in journalism research, which is still relevant to this day. It was founded as early as the 1920s by Walter Lippmann, and gained international recognition through Johan Galtung and Mari Holmboe Ruge, who in 1965 developed a list of news factors and empirically tested them. This was followed by countless empirical studies on this topic, which attempted to further develop the theory. This article provides an overview of the history of news value research and outlines what researchers are interested in today.
