The text “Encoding/Decoding in the television discourse” and its expanded version “Encoding/Decoding” are key works of British Cultural Studies. In them, sociologist Stuart Hall describes a media model that focuses less on the technical aspects of news transmission and communication, but much more emphasizes the political dimensions of media reception. Reception is understood by Hall as a concept based on semiotic foundations. Films, information, TV productions and other media formats are seen as polysemic (ambiguous) texts. Especially with regard to the decoding and translation of content and codes, Hall sees an option for the recipients to pursue an enlightening and emancipatory use of media.

摘要
