摘要
This article examines the phenomenon of „forgetting“ within the context of academic research, focusing on the contributions of Jewish scholars to the study of the Investiture Controversy and its surrounding historical environment. It explores how institutional, disciplinary, and social mechanisms – ranging from antisemitism to academic networking and publication practices – have led to the marginalization or neglect of significant Jewish research. Through case studies of individual scholars and their works, the article highlights the complex interplay between personal, institutional, and societal factors in shaping what is remembered or forgotten in historical scholarship. Without being able to explain the conspicuous absence (or avoidance?) of Jewish contributions to the topic of the „Investiture Controversy“ this study ultimately calls for greater awareness of these „contexts of forgetting“ to foster a more inclusive and accurate historiography.
