Not to forget has been the most powerful motivation for recording history since the beginnings of historiography. The prologues of medieval historiographical works regularly reflect this. At the same time, the necessity to make a selection is the first reason for forgetting. Added to this are conscious processes of wanting to forget, especially in the „state-aligned“ historiography. In the context of the conference on which the volume is based, attention is drawn to the self-reflection of contemporary research as well as its selection principles in the preparation and preservation of knowledge. Eleven contributions approach the questions: What is „forgotten research“? Which traces of it can be found (or rediscovered) in the field of medieval studies when one begins to search? In addition, provide insights into the current reasons for forgetting (conscious omission, remote publication venue, wrong language, political circumstances, lack of disciplinary assignment of the author). This volume aims to raise awareness of forgetting and to promote reflection on the framework of historical knowledge and research.

摘要
