In the winter semesterDemocracy 1946/1947, Paul Feyerabend initially enrolled at the University of Vienna in the subjects of history, philosophy, and art history, and switched to physics and astronomy in the following summer semester. In August 1948, he attended the Forum Alpbach and there also met Karl Raimund Popper. In the years that followed, Feyerabend would return to Alpbach several more times. He would meet the physicist Erwin Schrödinger and the physicist Lise Meitner, the philosophers Rudolf Carnap and Herbert Feigl, Joseph Agassi, Hans Albert, and Imre Lakatos. Alpbach 1948 had consequences. In the Austrian university cities, regional working groups of students formed, who wanted to take up and further discuss the topics from Alpbach. One of these working groups was the so-called “Kraft Circle,” led by Viktor Kraft, in which Paul Feyerabend played an active role. During this period, Feyerabend likely also met Bertolt Brecht through the mediation of Walter Hollitscher. Brecht offered Feyerabend a position as an assistant in Berlin. Feyerabend declined, stayed in Vienna, and received his doctorate in 1951 on the theory of basic statements. Afterwards, Feyerabend applied to the British Council for a scholarship to continue his studies in England with Ludwig Wittgenstein. Since WittgensteinWittgenstein, Ludwig had already passed away, Feyerabend went to Popper in 1952Popper, Karl Raimund at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Before that, he had made a name for himself not only as a young scholar. From 1947/1948 onwards, he resumed singing lessons, attended theater performances, and loved women.
