State of the Art
摘要
Apart from Blum-Kulka’s work, only a small number of studies focus on perception. Even fewer studies collect ranking instead of rating data. All studies concerned with the relationship between indirectness and politeness report that, across the board, MD are perceived as most direct and least polite in most contexts, while conventionally indirect strategies are perceived as most polite yet only moderately indirect. Contrary to perception studies, the production of request strategies is widely researched. Nevertheless, research on the varieties of English is often limited to BrE or AmE only. DCT and corpus studies are the favoured methods used to assess the production of request strategies.
