摘要
This chapter provides a comprehensive background on the historical region of Upper Silesia. It introduces the region’s linguistic diversity, the significance of the Catholic faith, and the origins of Poland’s 1999 and 2017 education reforms. These contextual elements form the basis for understanding four key analytical categories derived from the interviews—Silesian origin, multilingualism, Catholic faith, and the 2017 reform. By outlining these aspects and reviewing the current state of research, the chapter situates Upper Silesia within the broader framework of educational and identity studies.
