The article will focus on coastal morphology and coastal loss in the southern parts of Louisiana. This area of study was chosen because, here, land loss phenomena are clearly visible in the landscape. The following will analyse different processes of land loss in costal areas of Louisiana as well as the multi-faceted causes and influencing factors. Additionally, this article will address the ecological, economic and social consequences. On the basis of maps which were generated from historic and contemporary maps and homogenized on ArcGIS Pro, the extend of the coast line and the extend of losing marshland should be analysed. This requires an extensive theoretical examination of the phenomena of land loss. The aim of this article is to reveal the importance of accurate and elaborate cartographic representation while, simultaneously, addressing the problem of the representation of hybrid spaces such as marshlands. This article combines thorough analyses of landloss, its causes and consequences with cohesive representations of the matter through four generalized maps of Leeville and the surrounding coastal areas.

摘要
