This book offers an empirical and theoretical contribution to the scientific debate on urban quality of life and on the Capability Approach by complementing an interdisciplinary sociological and urban research perspective with an educational perspective. Its distinctive focus lies on the biographical experience and on the learning processes of families from the European Union living in Vienna and with children. It is the fruit of one and a half year of fieldwork in Vienna, differentiated into two sub-fieldworks: one with migrant-origin families from Italy and Hungary, including both adults and children, in the neighborhoods of residence; the other with an institution named Gebietsbetreuung Stadterneuerung, tendered by the Municipality of Vienna. I hereby studied quality of life both at the micro-level constituted by everyday life of families and their individual members, and at the urban mezzo-level where the work of Gebietsbetreuung is situated.
