Self-confidence
摘要
Self-confidence represents a distinct form of trust, a “trust in oneself.” It is not based on interpersonal interaction and is not subject to the risks of so-called reciprocity. This contribution explores the question of what self-confidence is, what it means to “trust in oneself,” and how this facet of trust differs from other forms of trust. Self-confidence is first defined and examined within the context of psychological theory and research, before considering the development of self-confidence as well as its forms and measurability. Self-confidence is distinguished from other constructs such as self-efficacy. Various approaches to fostering self-confidence are presented, and the question is also addressed as to whether high self-confidence is always necessarily positive. Finally, the content presented is reflected upon and implications are derived.
