False Accusations in Cases of Sexual Assault
摘要
In light of growing public awareness regarding sexual violence, the widely reported media complaint about an allegedly increasing gap between reports of sexual assault and criminal convictions may seem surprising at first glance. However, this finding should not prompt a hasty withdrawal of trust in the rule-of-law criminal justice process or fuel populist criticism of the judiciary. A range of trust-related dimensions must also be taken into account: excessive trust in criminal law as a means of recognizing and resolving social conflicts, trust in public discourses on sexual violence, and, not least, the trust between individuals in social or intimate relationships.
