Even low-threshold sports and physical activity programs outside of organized sports associations require a child rights-based protection policy that covers all forms of violence and meets recognized quality standards. Examples of institutional protection policies from other sectors of society can be adapted to programs outside organized sports with minimal effort. Through a participatory process for implementing a child protection policy, the objectives of sports development programs—such as empowerment, participation, and the social development of the target group—can be more easily achieved and consolidated.
