This chapter first presents an integrated concept for business process and workflow management. The concept is described in terms of its elements (levels, phases, and perspectives). Standardized optimization concepts for business processes are then discussed, along with an introduction to several well-known management concepts that pursue objectives similar to those of process management. The chapter concludes with a section on reference models for process management, as well as questions and an exercise.
