Up to this point, the project has come a long way. At its beginning stood the fundamental observation that democracy cannot be taken for granted, even in long established democracies, which was prominently illustrated by Michelle Obama’s and Condoleezza Rice’s quotes (Dews 2017; Johnson 08.01.2024). We live in troubled times and democracies today face a variety of challenges.
