This chapter addresses the phenomenon that societal inequalities persist particularly in online communities labelled as ‘open’ (e.g. Wikipedia). Applying both a normative and constitutive understanding to dynamics of inclusion and exclusion, the chapter argues that community-/platform-specific regulatory and parrying policies are needed to promote inclusivity in ‘open’ contexts. Such policies first and foremost rely on drawing boundaries and forms of sanctioning of derogatory/discriminatory contributions and/or contributors. By making the constitutive relationship between the creation of inclusivity and the simultaneous enactment of exclusion visible, the need for a transformation of community-/platform-specific power relations is highlighted.
